Founded as a philanthropic institution by the late Pachnan Gune Shastri, a distinguished scholar, vaidya, and Ayurvedartha (practitioner of Ayurveda), Shastri ji authored numerous books on Ayurveda and developed various therapies that remain foundational in Ayurvedic medical education even today.

His son, after completing a B.Pharm degree from Banaras Hindu University in 1950, established Ayurved Pharmacy Ltd under Shastri ji’s guidance. This philanthropic venture evolved into a viable commercial organisation and was renamed Aphali Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
